how we do it - The Margerison-McCann Team Management Systems

The Team Management Profile not only reveals individual team role preferences but provides a TMWmethod whereby the different preferences existing in the team can be measured against the types of work needed to do the team task. The concepts and models at the heart of the Team Management Profile are designed to help team members understand how they can be linked together to produce a high-performing team. It can be used to resolve conflicts, help in development and support appraisal outcomes in a more objective way.

The Types of Work Profile is designed to enable a particular job or position to be rated according to the work functions of the Types of TOWMWork model, a wheel indicating the key activities in any job. This profile looks at the match between the job and the preferences of the person doing that job. It highlights the differences and enables discussion about the different requirements of the job which the holder needs to cover. It can be used in task allocation and in individual support & appraisal.

The Linking Skills Profile is designed to measure individual linking skills - the way a person co-ordinates and integrates the work of their team. It is based on the eleven Linking Skills identified by Team Management Systems. These are: Active Listening, Communication, Problem Solving & Counselling, Team Development, Work Allocation, Team Relationships, Delegation, Quality Standards, Objective Setting, Interface Management and Participative Decision Making. It is an essential piece of feedback for those managers or individuals upon whom responsibility for an interface lies and who work at the boundary with other departments and organisations.
