individual development
There are several aspects to individual development including management development, personal development and one-to one consultancy support.
Management development concentrates on the individual’s career and the knowledge and skills required to help them attain professional goals and objectives such as team working and leadership.
Personal development focuses on an individual's own goals and needs in life. A great deal of attention is paid to personal values and beliefs, the meaning of success and how a person wants to be remembered after they have gone.
Senior managers often find it difficult to discuss their problems with their peers and subordinates especially if the issues concerned are of a strategic nature. A consultant is not involved in the operational implications of the decision, only about making the right decision for the business. Talking to someone with strategic experience can also lead to a solution out of the normal paradigm of thinking either for the individual or for the organisation.
These issues can be addressed both in terms of group and individual needs
DEVA adds value to individual development by:
- believing that everyone should take responsibility for their own individual development and employability, within the framework of the organisation
- having a range of problem-tackling and creative models on which to call ‘how we do it’.
- being experienced in strategic approaches to problem-solving
- having a wide experience of different organisations and professional expertise
- having a wealth of experience of running such programmes and helping people to learn
- appreciating what it is like to carry the burden of leadership

Preparing an Individual Development booklet or manual for the group concerned is an important part of the service offered. For an example of one of the exercises we use see ‘Life as a journey’.
